ElectroWhat? - Ambient

So I mentioned Brian Eno, did I? Well, Brian Eno is generally credited as the one who came up with the term “Ambient music.” However, mind you, Ambient existed long before Eno; Eno was just the first person to find the right way to describe it. Eno derived Ambient from the Latin word “ambire,” which means “to surround,” an action that Ambient music is meant to have: it can put people in a different state of mind, but it can just as easily be ignored, just like wallpaper. The color of a wall or what wallpaper is on the wall might not be the first thing we think of when we enter a room, but it definitely can affect our mood and how we feel, especially if we decide to observe it. The same goes for Ambient music: it can either be something that’s just in the background or it can be something that is being actively observed, but it can affect us in either way.
